A poorly-secured metal railing damaged by a fallen tree poses a danger, says a STOMPer.This railing at a canal in Bukit Batok collapsed about six to seven weeks ago. It is now temporarily secured back in position with nylon ropes. This caused concerned Stomper Ronald Chan to send in photos of the railing yesterday (19th June), saying: "Nylon ropes may have been used but it is only a temporary measure."
Mr Chan feels that the issue is of even greater concern as the railing is beside a primary school and it may cause potential danger to the pupils."I don't know who is in charge of maintaining the railing but it is within the Hong Kah North Zone 3 Neighbourhood, so I hope the authorities can do something about it soon," the Bukit Batok resident said. He also asked: "Are we going to wait for something more serious to happen before we take actions to do something?" STOMP has contacted the relevant authorities and is now awaiting their replies.

Damaged railing fixed after STOMPer alert
This railing by a canal in Bukit Batok is now looking rock solid, just three days after STOMP carried a story following an alert by STOMPer Ronald Chan that it was poorly-secured and posed a danger.
Mr Chan told STOMP in an email on 19 June that the railing had been damaged by a tree that fell after it was struck by lightning.
The damaged railing is along the stretch of canal between Dazhong Primary School and Block 310, Bukit Batok Street 32.
Mr Chan reported that one portion of the railing had collapsed and was held in place by nylon ropes.
STOMP contacted the relevant authorities immediately after receiving Mr Chan's email.
On Friday morning (22 June), the Public Utilities Board (PUB) said in an email to STOMP: "The damaged railings have been replaced and repainting works will be completed by this afternoon."
